My records are made using a restored Presto 6N recording lathe, with a Presto 1-D cutting head. I am embossing grooves into Polycarbonate using sapphire embossing cones. These records by their nature are a little quieter than commercially pressed records, and are mono.
Each record is made one at a time, and tested on multiple systems for tracking.
If you are looking for audiophile fidelity, this is not for you – but there are many guys out there doing stereo lathe-cut records, it’s a totally different process, and significantly more expensive then what I am shooting for.
I am still developing my process, studio, and tools, and the options I have will be evolving steadily.
